Matanos L'Evyonim / Maos Chitim Appeal 2026

Matanos L'evyonim / Maos Chitim Appeal 2026

Shevat/Adar 5786
February  2026

Dear Friends:

We would like to remind you as we celebrate the yomin tovim, the ultimate simcha is to help others enjoy yom tov as well.  We have commenced our annual Matanos L’Evyonim/Maos Chitim Appeal.  This is halachically obligatory charity appeal of the year.  The money we raise is distributed to reach those in need on Purim and before Pesach.

The Purim and Pesach season is a most joyous time of year. As is well known, the Rambam (Laws of Yom Tov 6:18) has strident words for those who enjoy our beautiful holidays without providing for the poor and those who are dispirited. The YILC Community, he would no doubt agree, is worthy of the simcha of the season, as it shares its joy by assisting those less fortunate.

The money that we raise is distributed both to local charities and causes and to the poor in Israel. As the people of Israel recover from a long and difficult war, we can continue to do our part by helping those in need there to make Purim and Pesach with less financial stress. Many charities come to depend on the generosity of our community this time of year. Let us not disappoint them. We ask each of our members to contribute generously according to their means.

Last year the appeal raised over $110,000.  We hope we can do as well, if not better, this year.
