FAMILY TO FAMILY

We are excited to introduce you to a remarkable initiative that aims to foster unity and create meaningful relationships between Israeli families and families here in Chutz La’aretz.

Currently, there are more than 100,000 families in Israel who have been displaced due to the ongoing crisis. Additionally, over 300,000 families have a parent or other family members serving in the reserves. We have identified many of these families who are in a state of emotional and financial uncertainty as a result.

These families are seeking emotional support, and our American families are eager to extend a helping hand by providing the much-needed assistance to their fellow Jews in Israel. However, this project goes beyond just offering support during times of crisis; it's about nurturing lasting “achdut” within Klal Yisrael, the broader Jewish community.

To achieve this objective, we are intentionally pairing families from various religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. We believe that the strength of the Jewish people lies not only in our similarities but also in our ability to connect with those who may be different from us.

In addition to emotional support, many Israeli families could use a little extra "hug" in the form of financial assistance to help them navigate these challenging times. By providing this support, we can make a significant impact on their lives and demonstrate our commitment to each other as one united Jewish family. This financial support will be provided in the form of $280 each month for the 6 months following the initiation of the program.

Throughout the program, all participating families will receive guidance and support to help them develop their relationships in a way that encourages and ensures ongoing connections. Families will be able to participate at all levels of Hebrew proficiency.

We are piloting the selection of US families through five shul communities: YILC, YIW, and Beth Shalom in the 5 Towns, as well as YIGN and Shaarei Zion in Great Neck.

If your family is interested in participating, kindly complete the form using the link below to initiate the process of being considered for the program. All submitted forms will be reviewed by our team of YILC coordinators listed below, who will follow up for any additional details. Please feel free to reach out to our coordinators for any questions.

POLITICAL ACTION

This has been one of the hardest days Israel ever faced.
Unfortunately it is just the beginning.
Given the terrible news out of Israel.
One critical thing we can do is reach out to our congressional representatives.
This link from AIPAC makes it very easy.

SAFETY

In 2021, during the May war with Hamas, it did not take long for pro-Hamas activists to march the streets of New York, LA and major cities around the world. It wasn't long before those turned to violence and there were many incidents of violent anti-semitism here and around the world. This war does not look like it will be a short campaign. As it continues, we can expect similar reactions from the many Hamas supporters locally. Please exercise caution especially when traveling to Manhattan and avoid all pro-Hamas rally areas.

SENSITIVITY

The Jewish people have seen an untold amount of pogroms and massacres throughtout history. What is unique about the pogram which just occured is that the terrorists were uploading videos of their heinous debauchery online for public dissemination. Please remember that our children and grandchildren have never been exposed to the idea of Jews being killed in the streets. These images and stories have the potential to create a lot of anxiety among the young and for ourselves. Please be sensitive in how we spread information and in front of whom we are talking.

Please click the button below for guidelines from our member Dr. Norman Blumenthal about how do discuss the war with our families.
